This restaurant offers the best creative cuisine along the Outer Banks. Expect a sense of relaxed chic and elegant food in a subtly lit, nautically inspired setting, with expensive boats bobbing at anchor in the nearby marina. Preface your meal with a drink at the convivial bar, where a bar top sheathed in polished copper reflects the faces and voices of many of the town’s amicable locals. Good food and service await you here, and the menu is more sophisticated than most in the area…

Manteo Gem

Oct 27, 2011 by Yogaphile

This small restaurant in the Tranquil inn in Manteo is worth a visit if you like a quiet adult atmosphere, subdued lighting and classical music in the background. We have dined there several times over the years, and have yet to be disappointed. There is an interesting view of Manteo harbor from the window tables. The menu is varied, with several daily and seasonal specials. It is interesting that the Chop House side of the menu is designed for clientele who prefer straightforward vegetables and potatoes with their meal, whereas the same entrees are also offered with the chef's creative accompaniments at a slightly higher price. Our waiter, Brian, was knowledgeable not only about how the food was prepared but also portion sizes. Our shared soup of the day, creamy asparagus, was flavorful but only
lukewarm. A fact we mentioned in passing as Brian cleared the plate away. My cobia served
over a medley of black eyed peas, apples, sweet potatoes and walnuts, was moist and
delicious. My husband's tuna from the simpler menu was equally good. Too full for dessert we were surprised that the cost of the soup had been omitted from the check. This is customer service at its best. We will most definitely return to 1587.

Everything was excellent! Nice clean restaurant. Server was very knowledgeable. Apps, salads, entrees, and desert were so good everyone cleaned their plates. Menu is pricy but worth every penny. We got 2 local recommendations for 1587, and we were not disappointed. Go here for dinner! We can't wait to go back the next time we are in the outer banks.

My husband and I ate here last week on our OBX vacation. We arrived without reservations, so had a short wait at the bar. Our waiter was very friendly, however, they looked understaffed for the night--there were only 2 or 3 servers for the whole place and the hostess was breaking her neck trying to help out. We had a small table by the window with a view of the small harbor. I ordered the beef tenderloin which was AMAZING. It was cooked exactly as ordered and just wonderful. It was served with lump crab and mushroms over asparagus with a demi glaze. I really can't say enough good about this dish. The bread was wonderful, too! It is a bit pricey, but I would definitely eat here if given the opportunity again!

Best Place we ate in the OBX

My husband and I ate here after it was recommended to us while on the Downeast Rover and I am glad we followed their recommendation because it was fabulous. I had the beef tenderloin and my husband had the NY Strip and they were both delicious along with all the sides. The only thing that we had that I think I cook better is the creme brulee; it was very airy and not as creamy as we like....but it still had a good favor.

It was Great!
