Saved my daughters wedding
I am going to rate this wonderful restaurant 10 stars. We has an outdoor wedding planned for my daughter and there were torrential rains all day. We came from out of town along with other family members on the grooms side that had to leave. 1587 went out of there way to close down the restaurant for 1/2 hour so we could perform the ceremony there. We moved up the reception and they assisted with that too. The food was amazing. Best scallop appetizer ever. The peppercorn filet with asparagus and tarragon mushrooms was delicious. Again what a welcoming friendly delicious experience. I will return again.
My husband and I visit every year, we so look forward to the great food, service and atmosphere. It's always wonderful to relax at a nice establishment where you know everything will always be good. Thank you for a nice evening every year!!!!! See you soon.
Not what I expected...but so much more
This restaurant is nestled away in the corners of Manteo, and was one of the best retaurants I think I have ever been to. I chose this restaurant to have my wedding, not ever having stepped into Manteo and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the meal dishes I chose. Everything was prepared so nicely that it made my wedding dinner turn out perfect. The staff was wonderful and the service was excellent. My guests were so impressed that I believe many will be returning and making this area their new vacation spots! The view out onto the water is so peaceful and serene that you feel almost taken away by the atmosphere. My husband and I do intend to go back again for our anniversary, and not only enjoy the restaurant, but the town itself. 1587 is a "must see to believe" place.
This small restaurant in the Tranquil inn in Manteo is worth a visit if you like a quiet adult atmosphere, subdued lighting and classical music in the background. We have dined there several times over the years, and have yet to be disappointed. There is an interesting view of Manteo harbor from the window tables. The menu is varied, with several daily and seasonal specials. It is interesting that the Chop House side of the menu is designed for clientele who prefer straightforward vegetables and potatoes with their meal, whereas the same entrees are also offered with the chef's creative accompaniments at a slightly higher price. Our waiter, Brian, was knowledgeable not only about how the food was prepared but also portion sizes. Our shared soup of the day, creamy asparagus, was flavorful but only lukewarm. A fact we mentioned in passing as Brian cleared the plate away. My cobia served over a medley of black eyed peas, apples, sweet potatoes and walnuts, was moist and delicious. My husband's tuna from the simpler menu was equally good. Too full for dessert we were surprised that the cost of the soup had been omitted from the check. This is customer service at its best. We will most definitely return to 1587.
Can't wait to go back!
Everything was excellent! Nice clean restaurant. Server was very knowledgeable. Apps, salads, entrees, and desert were so good everyone cleaned their plates. Menu is pricy but worth every penny. We got 2 local recommendations for 1587, and we were not disappointed. Go here for dinner! We can't wait to go back the next time we are in the outer banks.
My husband and I ate here last week on our OBX vacation. We arrived without reservations, so had a short wait at the bar. Our waiter was very friendly, however, they looked understaffed for the night--there were only 2 or 3 servers for the whole place and the hostess was breaking her neck trying to help out. We had a small table by the window with a view of the small harbor. I ordered the beef tenderloin which was AMAZING. It was cooked exactly as ordered and just wonderful. It was served with lump crab and mushroms over asparagus with a demi glaze. I really can't say enough good about this dish. The bread was wonderful, too! It is a bit pricey, but I would definitely eat here if given the opportunity again!
Best Place we ate in the OBX
My husband and I ate here after it was recommended to us while on the Downeast Rover and I am glad we followed their recommendation because it was fabulous. I had the beef tenderloin and my husband had the NY Strip and they were both delicious along with all the sides. The only thing that we had that I think I cook better is the creme brulee; it was very airy and not as creamy as we like....but it still had a good favor.
It was Great!
My husband and I took a friend who was visiting us. this was our first visit to the restuarant as well. We were very pleased with the service, the presentation, and the food. We will return.
